About This Video

In this lesson I’m showing you how to play “Best of Me” by Anthony Hamilton on guitar, with a very R&B-friendly approach that keeps you locked into the groove. The song is in the key of D♭ major, and it’s honestly a great workout because it’s almost all bar chords. I break everything down step-by-step: the chord shapes you need, the main progression, the rhythm/strum feel, and then the bridge so you can play the full song from top to bottom. We only need eight chord shapes to get through the whole arrangement: Fm7, B♭m7, E♭m7, A♭/E♭, G♭/D♭, Bmaj7, D♭maj7, and a B♭m7 down at the 1st fret. I also give you a simple workaround for the “slash chords” (A♭/E♭ and G♭/D♭) if they feel awkward—just grab a regular major barre chord and strum from the A string down. From there, I teach the main rhythm (that “duh-duh” feel) and show how it stays consistent through the first three chords, then changes for the last two. For the bridge, you can either keep the same rhythmic approach or keep it simple by strumming each chord once and holding it—both are perfectly valid. Once you’ve got these two sections, you’ve got the whole song.
