About This Video

In this lesson I’m breaking down how to play “Sensation” by TA Thomas on guitar. A patron put me onto his music (I hadn’t heard him before), and once I checked out that guitar-and-vocals performance he did, I knew there were some really clean R&B parts worth transcribing. The good news: the core of this song is a simple loop, and you only need two chords to get through it. I show you the exact shapes for B6 over D# (think of it like a B major in first inversion with that bar at the 4th fret) and an Amaj9 open voicing that uses the open B and high E strings. From there, I walk you through the intro/melody movement: the little walk-up on the A string, the hammer-on idea on the D string, and the double-stop moment where you keep your bar down for clean pressure and sustain. After you strum the B6/D#, I show you the picking pattern across the top strings, then how it transitions into the Amaj9 and repeats. Once you’ve got the pressure, muting, and timing together, you’ve basically got the whole song.
