About This Video

In this week’s lesson I’m showing you how to play “So Beautiful” by Musiq Soulchild. It’s an absolute classic, and the good news is it’s not too complicated—you should be able to learn it in one sitting. I walk you through the key (F major), the exact chord shapes, and then we break the progression into two halves so you can loop it smoothly and make it feel like the record. Before we get into the chords, I also explain how I’m getting that wavy, ambient sound. I’m using tremolo to automatically raise and lower the volume at an even interval because, to me, it approximates the sound of a Rhodes piano (which is what you hear on the track). Then I add a little delay for extra ambience and repeats—but you don’t need any of that to play the song. From there I show the main changes: Gm7 to Dm9 to Am7, then a walk-down through Bbmaj7 and Am7#5 back to Gm7, plus the second-half variation with the G over A chord. By the end, you’ll have the full loop under your fingers, slow and then up to vibe with effects.
