Does a Vox treble booster work with the UAFX Lion?

Yep— I think it works quite well with the Lion. It’s a little more blown out than when I tried a treble booster into the UAFX Ruby, but it’s still very usable and sounds really, really good. It adds gain and makes everything feel bigger.

Can a digital Marshall-style amp pedal take an analogue treble booster?

That was the whole “this can’t possibly sound any good… or CAN IT?” thing, and honestly, it reacted great. The Lion compresses in a lovely way and still feels super dynamic under the fingers. Running it direct into Logic, it still had that pushed-amp vibe.

What signal chain did you use in this video?

I went guitar straight into the Vox Treble Booster, straight out of that into the UAFX Lion. Then I ran the Lion into the UAFX Starlight and into Logic in stereo. Everything you’re hearing is direct.

Which Lion preset did you start with and why?

I started on the green preset called “Moorish Clean.” It’s a clean set I quite like, and it’s the only preset with reverb on it as well. I know some people might whine about the reverb, but I like that sound.

Did the treble booster make the tone brighter or thicker?

Strangely, it kind of fattens things out—even though it’s a treble booster. It made things bigger and gave me more gain. It’s not just “ice pick,” it’s more like a push and a shape.

Did P90s or humbuckers sound better with the Lion and treble booster?

Personally, I thought it sounded killer with P90s—that’s just my opinion. With humbuckers it still sounded great, and I just bumped presence and treble a bit to keep it bright. The fat switch could get a bit too much and a bit blown out depending on the setting.

Is the UAFX Lion dynamic with a treble booster in front?

Yeah—super dynamic. Even with the boost hitting the front end, it still responds really nicely and feels good to play. The compression is there, but in a ‘lovely way,’ not a squashed way.

I did a little experiment: what happens when you plug an analogue Vox Treble Booster into the UAFX Lion (that vintage Marshall-ish amp-in-a-box pedal)? I’d already tried a treble booster into the UAFX Ruby to see if it reacts like a Vox-style amp, and then I thought… what about different amp sim pedals? So in this video I go straight guitar → treble booster → Lion → UAFX Starlight for some stereo delay funsies → straight into Logic. Everything you hear is direct, and I bounce between a P90 guitar (my Gordon Smith Gatsby) and a humbucker guitar (Pure Salem Cardinal) to see how the Lion takes the boost. I start on the Lion’s “Moorish Clean” preset (it’s also the only one with reverb, which I quite like—people might whine, but… me), then I push it with the treble booster and mess with the fat switch. First impressions: it feels great, compresses in a lovely way, and it stays super dynamic. Then I jump to more driven/super bass-ish settings and into higher gain with humbuckers, tweaking presence/treble for a bit more brightness. Takeaway? The treble booster works really, really well into the Lion—maybe a little more blown out than with the Ruby, but in a “vintage Marshall + treble booster” sort of way. Weirdly (and wonderfully), it fattens things out, makes it bigger, and adds gain. Personally, I thought it sounded killer with P90s.
