Today I did a proper little CHORUS-OFF: the Jessup Amps Kenny Hickey Signature Chorus V1 (the light-up, glow-in-the-dark absolute legend) versus the V2 (the flashy light version that… does not glow in the dark, Santa). Same controls, same idea, but the whole point was simple: do they actually sound the same, or are we dealing with “same pedal on paper, different pedal in the ears”? We ran everything as fair as we could—both powered the same, same setup, and started with everything at 12 o’clock. I played it clean through our rig (amp switcher into a Two Notes Captor X), and we also checked it with a low-tuned guitar (my Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster in B standard with a Travis Bean-style bridge pickup) to see how the chorus sits on heavier, lower stuff. The big takeaway: they’re both very cool, but they’re not identical. To my ears, V1 feels softer/warmer, while V2 comes across a bit brighter and a touch more forward/aggressive in the mids. Would I call one “better”? Nah. But would I pay extra for the glow-in-the-dark symbol I see last when the studio lights go out? Yes. Yes I would.
