About This Video

Do we need another Klone…??? In this video I’m checking out the Dual Stage Amplification Cyllarus Overdrive (Mk1) — a “mythical half horse / half human” style drive with the familiar mid-forward thing going on, but with some genuinely useful tweaks. The big headline for me is the EQ: instead of just a single treble control, you get both High and Low, and it’s not just “more knobs for the sake of it” — you can really shift the focus from juicy, singing mids to a tighter, more pokey, focused midrange by pulling the extremes back. I ran it into a Cherry Tone Creme Brulee (Matchless-ish vibes) and tried a bunch of guitars: Les Paul, Tele, HSS, higher output stuff, and even a baritone tuned B-to-B because… why not. It does that edge-of-breakup, mid-punchy thing really well, and it also pushes a dirtier amp in a very satisfying way. Also: there is an absolutely silly amount of volume on tap (unity can be around 9 o’clock), plus extra gain compared to what you’d expect from this style. My takeaway: it’s one of the better “Klone-style but not really a clone” takes, mainly because the High/Low EQ and the added gain/volume make it more flexible across different guitars and tunings — whether you want tighter and articulate, or more blown-out and fuzzy. Helmet on, vest on.
