Leisure vehicle Dealers and Campervan Converters are going bust. The industry is facing a perfect storm. Today I discuss the ID Buzz isn't selling as hoped, historic UK dealerships vanishing, I also talk about what you must do if you are buying a campervan, motorhome or caravan. This is the Press Release from VW: "Volkswagen reaffirms commitment to ID. Buzz in U.S. market Dec 22, 2025 Statement on behalf of Kjell Gruner, President and CEO, Volkswagen Group of America:The ID. Buzz remains an important part of the Volkswagen portfolio, and I want to be clear: we are not canceling this product in the U.S. market. To optimize inventory, we’re leveraging 2025 models to support our dealers through mid-year, and we’re excited to welcome model year 2027 in 2026. Statement from Volkswagen of America:The ID. Buzz continues to serve as an important halo product for the Volkswagen brand, and safeguarding its market presence remains a top priority. Following a careful assessment of current EV market conditions, we have made the strategic decision not to move forward with MY26 ID. Buzz production for the U.S. market. This approach allows us to focus our resources more effectively on current inventory and supporting retail performance for the MY25 vehicles, which are readily available in dealerships across the country. All of this ensures a strong foundation as we prepare for the MY27 transition later this year." https://insideevs.com/news/782418/vw-id-buzz-electric-bus-canceled-2026/ https://www.cars.com/articles/volkswagen-id-buzz-skips-u-s-market-for-2026-519884/ https://www.carscoops.com/2025/11/this-chinese-motorhome-costs-half-as-much-as-the-rival-vw/ https://www.caravan-salon.com Topics Covered: 🛑 Why VW really paused the ID. About This Video

In this video I’m talking about what I’m calling a proper leisure vehicle crisis: dealers and converters going bust, forecourts rammed with stock, and prices that just don’t stack up like they used to. I start with the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, because it had all the hype and the legacy, yet in the U.S. it’s barely shifted around 6,000 units when it was meant to be a 100,000-a-year kind of vehicle. I love how it looks, but the real-world range (especially loaded on the motorway) and the luxury-level price tag are a big part of why people are voting “no” with their wallets. Then I bring it back to the UK, where the situation looks healthy from the road—rows and rows of vans—but that stock can be a ticking time bomb. Dealers are often tied into allocations and credit lines: once the low/0% period ends, interest ramps up and every unsold van starts bleeding money daily. I also cover how some “new model years” can be little more than a sticker and upholstery change, while spec quietly goes backwards—smaller leisure batteries, cheaper controls, removed features—so I keep saying it: check that spec sheet. Finally, I get into converters cutting corners to survive and why buyers need to slow down, verify accreditations, check gas/electrics paperwork, and test everything properly. With Korean and Chinese brands looming (and pricing that could be very aggressive), the market is shifting—so the only safe move is to research and buy with your eyes open.
