In this video I tackle a comment that’s been niggling at me for a while: that I’m “part of the campervan problem” because I review expensive vans and, apparently, normalise the prices. And look—on one level, I get why people are frustrated. Base vans have gone up horrendous amounts of money, and once you add a conversion you’re staring at £70k, £80k, even £90k. That absolutely puts it out of reach for a lot of people. But I’m not here to sell you anything. I don’t earn commission, I don’t take incentives, and I’ve told manufacturers that straight. The whole point of what I do is to stay impartial and show you the good and the bad, so you don’t get “sucked in” by glossy Instagram vans and a great salesperson who isn’t actually great at campervans. I use real examples—like why a £2.5k–£3k pop-top and an £8k Reimo electric pop-top are not the same product—and why understanding components is how you avoid paying the wrong money for the wrong van. I also address the “you don’t even own a campervan” jabs. I do—and even if I didn’t, I’ve got nearly 50 years of camping, caravanning and vanlife behind me. Because for me, campervanning isn’t really about the van; it’s about the places you go, the people you meet, and the experiences you bring back.
