About This Video

Well, hello track gang—Episode 5-2026 is all about our trip up to the 2026 Amherst Model Railroad Show, and yeah… “mind-blowing” pretty much covers it. I’ve talked for years about how big Timonium is here in Maryland, but Amherst is on a whole different level. I walk through how the buildings are laid out, what worked for us (doing the Better Living Center last), and why it’s smart to make yourself a vendor “grocery list” even though you’re probably not going to follow it perfectly. A big part of this episode is the people. I got to catch up with folks I don’t normally get to see—Elmar (American Lines), Arty, Tammy and Ray, Trackside Mike at Otter Valley Hobbies, Chris from Model Train Afficionado, Da’Bob from the N scale man cave, and a bunch more. We traded stickers, talked trains, and did the meet-and-greet over at the Roundhouse Layout Podcast. And then there was the trip… oh boy. Between snow, cancellations, and train 55 picking a frozen turnout and derailing (nobody hurt), it turned into an adventure just getting home. I also show the “finds and gifts” I brought back—some 1776-themed pieces, a really cool battery-powered searchlight car, and a few freight cars that’ll end up earning their keep on Boeville & Newtown.
