About This Video

Well, hello track gang—this week on the Boeville & Newtown I’m officially kicking off the 3D printed roundhouse build. The big reason I’m diving into this now is simple: I want to finish Boeville (yard, scenery, the whole deal), and I can’t really operate the railroad until I get the new control panel finished. I’ve already ripped everything out in the roundhouse area, so the next couple episodes are going to be focused on getting this structure built in a way that lets me move forward. In this episode I start working through the “no instructions” reality of a modular 3D print kit—because you can make it one stall, three stalls, fifteen stalls… whatever you need. I lay out the parts, talk through sub-assemblies (floor first, then walls, then trusses), and start gluing side walls with Loctite super glue after filing edges flat. I also hit the fun stuff: my printer decided to bow a corner, cutting a wall down for the shortened stall was harder than expected, and then I had to think through how the back wall and trusses are going to land—especially since glue doesn’t stick to paint. I finish by getting parts into the paint/drying setup, using linen for the exterior brick color, and I talk about interior color, windows/“glass,” and making the roof removable (yeah… that may cause me some hate later).
