About This Video

In Episode 45-2025, I’m back at the bench and out on the Boeville & Newtown doing the unglamorous stuff that keeps an operating HO railroad from turning into a headache—maintenance, track cleaning, and a couple of mail calls. This isn’t an ops session video (those were a marathon), but it is the kind of behind-the-scenes work that makes ops possible. I also share a quick holiday update and a few shout-outs to folks who’ve helped out along the way. On the repair side, I dig into a battery-operated “Santa Express” family train set from 1997—missing a coupler hook and running like an absolute noise maker. With a 3D-printed part from Dave at DBT Tech and some Super Lube, I get it back together and running a whole lot better for my daughter to use around her tree. Then I tackle one of my Canton Railroad units by swapping out old steel wheels for better wheelsets, clean up the yard and Wye Industrial trackage, and call it a win when it runs without me having to touch it. I also mess with a finicky Tyco/Durango GP20 “power torque” drive using parts Dave sent—after some serious fiddling, I end up with a runner that can make a lap around the layout.
