About This Video

Hey track gang—welcome back to the Boeville & Newtown for Episode 40 (2025), Ops Session Part 3. In this one I’m running trains 9 through 12, and that means I’m also doing the behind-the-scenes work of getting 13, 14, 15, and 16 staged up for the next round. The big theme tonight is keeping the railroad “balanced” between the north and south yards. I caught a mistake from the last video—my northbound balancer was short three cars—so I fixed it by adding a couple boxcars and a reefer so the yards should come out even after this cycle. Operationally, you’ll see why I hold the northbound at the control point outside Boeville while the southbound works Newtown and RBC Distribution. The southbound has to cross the northbound main to get into RBC, and because RBC is a distribution center I run it with buffer cars—five of them—so the locomotive doesn’t go “inside.” From there it’s yard work at Boeville: breaking the inbound, fighting a couple finicky cars and turnouts, spinning power on the (sometimes “interesting”) Walthers 90-foot turntable, and building the southbound to Richmond. I wrap it up by getting the local passenger moves (trains 11 and 12) in and staged, and setting the table for next week’s 13–16 run.
