Hey track gang—episode 31 for 2025 ended up being a little different, because my wife Dawn got us a table at a local church flea market. Yeah… we’re there to get rid of stuff my daughter didn’t want when she moved out, and then Dawn tells me to go walk around and “keep an eye out” for a couple things. So of course I stumble onto railroad stuff from what looks like the 70s/80s era, still with old price tags, and I couldn’t pass it up. In this Part 1, I go through the flea market finds and then take you down to the bench to see what it takes to get these older cars ready for the Boeville & Newtown. I’m dealing with rusty wheel points, a loose weight that luckily snaps back in, and those lovely Talgo-style couplers that are always a bit of a fight. I clean up wheel points with crocus cloth, swap in Kadee #148s, check everything with my KD height gauge, and even do a little “creative” renumbering when an eraser won’t take the old number off. Bottom line: a little fiddling, futzing, and yes—some cursing—and these cars are ready for car cards and layout duty.
