Hey track gang—this week is a true life-and-layout update from the Boeville & Newtown. I kick things off with why there wasn’t a video last week: we were running full tilt with family visiting from Germany, plus I’ve got a new opportunity at work that’s a lateral move but a big change (and it starts the week I’m away—go figure). On top of that, Rachel is getting ready to move out with her boyfriend, so we’re gearing up to help with that, and it’s going to make the next couple weeks a little choppy for layout time and videos. On the layout side, I’m not doing any major construction right now, but I’ve been chasing a big technical headache—camera and USB limitations on the new Windows 11 computer. Even with a pile of USB ports, I’m dealing with camera limits and latency, so I’m testing powered active extension cables, a hub, and different routing to get OBS running clean. I also fixed a self-inflicted turntable wiring issue (a twisted feed loop slipped past the insulator between the brass rings). Then I pivot into a “future project” that’ll matter once scenery starts: converting Boeville Yard’s manual turnouts to a control panel using DPDT center-off momentary toggles, because I don’t want folks reaching in with “meat hooks” once the scenery is in. And yeah… if you stick around long enough, you get the rant: YouTube’s copyright/strike mess and ads showing up on small channels needs to get fixed, because it’s starting to wreck the hobby side of content creation.
