About This Video

Hey track gang—this week in Boeville & Newtown Episode 24-2025 I’m back at it with my favorite “nagging issue”: the Walthers 90ft turntable… aka the POSOS. The big problem this time wasn’t just loose rails—it was that I flat-out lost electrical conductivity through the sealed bearings I’d been using for power pickup. They used to conduct, and now they don’t, and after poking around with the meter my best guess is the grease dried out and the ball bearings aren’t making contact between the races anymore. So I pulled the whole thing off the layout, got it on the bench, and started working through options—ranging from “toss it” (not happening) to rethinking the pickup system entirely. I ended up circling back toward the original brass ring setup, but with a new approach to the wipers using heavy gauge wire shaped into a hook so it stays put and keeps contact. While I had everything apart, I also took the opportunity to improve the look—painting the pit a more realistic gray and coming back with a diluted black wash for staining. I also reglued the bridge rails and talked about fixing wheel-picking issues by feathering/filing the rail ends like the instructions apparently wanted in the first place. To wrap it up, I took you out to the layout for a hidden yard/ops update: the train card boxes are in, labeled, and directional, and that whole area is basically 100% complete aside from tacking up some lighting wiring under the deck. Not a perfect week, but progress is progress—and I’m still pushing to get things ready for October.
