https://www.youtube.com/@RayBoebel?sub_confirmation=1 Welcome to Boeville & Newtown Episode 2 – 2026, where we take an in-depth look at the 2025 Locomotive & Rolling Stock Tracking System on my HO scale model railroad layout. This episode is designed for model railroaders, HO scale modelers, and anyone interested in realistic train layout operations, organization, and fleet management. In this video, I showcase how I track locomotives, freight cars, and rolling stock across the Boeville & Newtown Railroad, improving operational realism, efficiency, and layout planning. Whether you run DC or DCC, operate with timetables, or enjoy switching operations, this system helps manage large rosters of engines and cars while keeping your model railroad running smoothly. You’ll see how a locomotive tracking system can enhance operations sessions, prevent duplicate assignments, and add prototype-style realism to your layout. This episode is perfect for hobbyists building or expanding an HO scale train layout, organizing rolling stock, or looking for ideas to improve model railroad operations. If you’re passionate about model trains, HO scale railroading, layout design, and realistic railroad operations, this video is for you. About This Video

Hello track gang—this is Boeville & Newtown Episode 2 for 2026, and I start off with a little mail call plus an early birthday surprise from my daughter. The big score is a National Bohemian (Natty Boh) car from trains.com, and that’s what kicks the whole conversation into why I’ve been building a new 2025 locomotive and rolling stock tracking system for the B&N. I walk through the car itself, then I head over to the computer and show you how I’m logging it, making a car card for it, and dropping it into southbound staging unassigned so it’s ready for future ops. From there, I get into the nuts and bolts of how I’m organizing the roster: car IDs that actually mean something at a glance (flat cars, gons, hoppers, reefers, stock cars, tanks, and boxcars), plus how I split 40-foot and 50-foot boxcars because the 50-footers are through-freight only on my railroad. I also show how I’m tracking locations (staging, yards, industries), handling “open holes” when I accidentally skipped numbers, and marking out-of-service equipment—the “box of shame.” Finally, I show the dispatcher’s computer setup with the loco sheet, rolling stock sheet, schedule, and a fast clock plan, because the goal is smoother ops sessions and better maintenance planning based on how often power traverses the railroad.
