Today’s video is very much a “why is technology like this?” kind of day… and then I decided to try something brand new anyway. I’m working with the Creative Grids Hunter Star Trim Tool for the first time, and I walk you through what I’m trying to do to build a Hunter Star block (you know the one—four units that come together into that bold, punchy star). I’ve got a light and a dark fabric pulled, I reference the included instructions, and I’m using size B on the ruler (since it has multiple size options baked right in). And yes—because it’s me, and because it’s live—there’s a learning curve. I talk through how the tool is supposed to create those “smart corners” and mirror-image pieces, and I also show you exactly what happens when you don’t read one line closely enough and cut a set the same way instead of mirrored. The big takeaway: the ruler isn’t the problem, user error is real, and once I do it correctly, I can absolutely see why people say this tool makes Hunter Stars way more approachable. Consider this a very honest first run—and a solid “what not to do” before you cut into your favorite fabric.
