About This Video

Heat. Heat. Yeah… it’s Sunday, spring is trying to spring (and the pollen is trying to take me out), and I’m getting my button gear for my Virginia State Fair doll quilt entry. This year I’m going in with a little more strategy because last year the judges basically told me (and Becca) the same thing: “Cute, but that’s not a doll quilt… that’s an art quilt.” So now that I know what they’re actually looking for—more traditional quilt vibes, just mini—I’m building with that in mind. In this livestream I’m doing the unglamorous-but-necessary work: sewing up a mountain of tiny half-square triangles from the corner cut-offs of my Juicy Juice project. I’m aiming to trim these units down to 1.5" squares (finishing at 1"), and I’m chain piecing like my life depends on it. I also chat about a few updates—Cutterpillar’s spring event, Cotton Cuts’ “Under the Sea” mystery quilt reveal (April 24), and the ongoing friendly state fair rivalry with Sean and Becca. It’s a lot of sewing, a lot of catching up, and a whole lot of “we’ll figure it out later,” which is honestly a very real part of how I quilt.
