About This Video

In this video I kick off a new quilt with y’all: the Diamond Daze Quilt Pattern from Fat Quarter Shop. I’m using a Modern Fat Quarter Club bundle (May 2025) that’s basically a whole pile of Tula Pink—Full Moon Forest 2—and I wanted a project that would let those bold prints do their thing. The original free pattern calls for half-yards and a whole lotta diamonds (64 of them), but I only had fat quarters, so… quote math happened. Mine is “inspired by” the pattern: smaller, a little different, and likely landing in kid-quilt territory. We get into the real-life diamond piecing stuff—sewing rows on the diagonal, managing bias stretch, and why lining things up “corner to corner” will absolutely betray you if you don’t account for that quarter-inch. I also show the tool that saved my sanity: the Super Sidekick ruler from J-Bird Quilts. And yes, I had a classic Ian moment where I forgot to trim the little notches at first, had to seam rip, and then suddenly everything lined up like it was supposed to. Bonus detour: I talk starch and sprays (Best Press, Faultless), why I’m becoming a Faultless fan, and how a tiny spritz can make a cranky seam behave—because sometimes the quilt isn’t the problem… it’s your machine being fussy on Beyoncé’s internet.
