About This Video

Heat. Heat. Yeah… it was one of those cold Virginia days where I’m watching snow turn into sleet and side-eyeing the power grid the whole time. In this Trellis Garden Quilt Part 2 sew-along, I keep things cozy, chat with y’all, and get back to business on the Trellis Garden Quilt by Sew Becca. After last week’s little “I got overconfident and didn’t read closely enough” moment (oops), I spent some time going through my cut pieces, figuring out what I actually needed, and getting myself back on track. Today is all about moving from strip sets into real block assembly. I’ve got my flying geese strip units sewn, and now I’m building the blocks by putting the two shorter side pieces on first, then adding the top and bottom. You’ll see how I’m handling pressing, keeping things flat, and also how I deal when I accidentally rotate fabric orientation between blocks—because honestly, in a scrappy, bold modern quilt, sometimes that “mistake” becomes a design choice. If you’re sewing along, I’m working from page 6 where the block assembly starts, and if you still need the pattern, my discount code gets you 50% off.
