Go to https://shortlinus.com for all your case, screen protector, and overpriced sticker needs. The MacBook Neo offers some pretty compelling value. We found a few laptops from current or last-gen around the same price to find out what you're really spending your money on at the $600 price point. About This Video

Everyone and their dog has been saying Apple nuked the $600 laptop market with the MacBook Neo, so I did what any reasonable person would do: I bought three other laptops in the same price neighborhood and started handing out gold stars like a deranged kindergarten teacher. We looked at the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i Chromebook, an Acer Aspire that can’t decide if it’s “Premium” or “Light,” and a Dell 16 that was allegedly a $900-class machine… until the RAM apocalypse happened and it got shoved into the $599 bargain bin. Category by category, the Neo does a lot right: the one-finger hinge, the unibody-ish feel, the keyboard/trackpad experience, and the display are all wildly “how is this $600?” levels of good. But then we hit I/O, and it gets uncomfortable fast—two USB-C ports, and only one of them does USB 3. Meanwhile, the PCs are out here with HDMI, SD readers, and even an Ethernet port on the Acer. Performance is where things get spicy: the Neo’s single-thread is shockingly strong, the Dell’s Zen 5 situation is… embarrassing, and ChromeOS remains ChromeOS. Gaming goes to the Dell thanks to Radeon graphics, battery life goes to the Dell with the Neo and Chromebook close behind, and my overall takeaway is simple: the MacBook Neo wins the $600 vibe check—just don’t pretend it’s perfect.
