You clicked for one of three reasons: you want a CPU dunking contest, you’re shopping for the absolute fastest consumer hardware on Earth, or you just want to watch the comment section set itself on fire over an $899 processor. So yeah—buckle in. In this video I review AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition, a hilariously named, eyewateringly expensive, “zero compromises” Zen 5 chip that I’m genuinely excited about… even though it’s nearly impossible for me to recommend. The big story is the “Dual” part: AMD put 3D V-Cache on both CCDs, giving you a ridiculous 192MB of L3 cache—at the cost of higher power (200W TDP, and I saw up to ~260W package power in Cinebench) and slightly lower boost behavior. In gaming, it’s ripping fast, but it performs basically the same as other 9000-series X3D parts because most games don’t need more than 8 cores and crossing CCDs adds latency, so you’re back to core-parking jank anyway. Where it does shine is certain productivity: strong 7-Zip, top-tier Cinebench, a real ~5% Blender uplift vs the non-dual, great encoding results, and it’s a compelling “semi-pro” option with ECC UDIMM support on select boards—if you can stomach the price.
