In this video I’m walking you through how I light fashion photography, using behind-the-scenes footage from a recent shoot I did with a model agency. I break down my thought process from the very beginning—my inspiration (think elegance, prep school, high society), how I built the wardrobe styling, and the camera settings/composition choices I made to get the look I had in my head. I shot on my Canon R6 with my Sigma 24-70 Art and a Canon 100mm macro, and I’m usually living around f/8 for that sharpness and clarity. Lighting-wise, I kept it real-world and consistent by running a four-light approach with continuous lights instead of strobes—so yes, I had to push ISO to compensate, but I love the results. I show you how I used a Forza 500 as my key (often at 100% for max output), a Godox light mat rigged overhead for fill/top light, and two background lights (Amaran 300C + an RGB light) to control brightness, gradients, and color. I also break down one of my most common beauty setups—the clamshell—because it’s a staple for a clean, soft, less contrasty face in fashion and beauty work.
