Using RGB LED lights for portrait photography. In this video, I break down a recent photoshoot. Where I used continuous video lighting instead of photography strobes. One of the benefits of doing so is I'm more able to fine-tune my image in real-time. Also helps me as a hybrid shooter being able to use the same lighting setup for both photo and video. In my recent shoot, I incorporated different brands of high-output LED lights from Aputure, Godox, and Ambitful. Using RGB and Bicolor lighting for my fashion photography. About This Video

In this video I’m breaking down a recent fashion portrait shoot where I leaned fully into RGB and bi-color continuous lighting instead of traditional photo strobes. I’ve got a videography background, and as a hybrid shooter I love being able to fine-tune my image in real time—seeing the color, the spill, and the shadows as I’m shooting. The big takeaway is that high-output LED lights are finally in a place where you can use the same setup for both photo and video and still get strong, clean results. I walk you through two looks from the day with Maria (she was super patient while I experimented). Look one was a blue “ocean/wave” vibe using mylar paper for that wavy reflection, plus multiple RGB sources to infuse the scene with blue. Look two shifted into red/orange with a warmer key and a harder, more directed spot feel using a fresnel—almost like fake sunlight. My overall advice: experiment, match wardrobe to background when it makes sense, and don’t be afraid to build gradients instead of flat single-color backdrops. RGB is a playground right now, and I’m here for it.
