Swatch & paint Isaro watercolor beautiful convenience mixtures, demonstrate how to replicate them using single pigment ingredients from any brand, such as Roman Szmal -show more for supply links- Isaro makes beautiful watercolor paints, the downside is that Jackson's only carries their small 7ml tubes (about 1 full pan when completely dried) and they are on the expensive side. My favorite lower price alternative is Roman Szmal, often providing the same amount of paint for half the price. For your reference, most 15ml tubes of watercolor = 2 full pans or 4 half pans (completely filled, air dried and topped off again to account for shrinkage). Some brands shrink slightly more or less than others due to the water content in that particular company's formula. I most often use very fine line width 01 fineliners or 0.20 tip size technical pens. R&K SketchInk is lightfast, waterproof and comes in many colors: https://www.jacksonsart.com/en-us/rohrer-klinger-sketchink-50ml?___store=jacksonsart_us&acc=c0f168ce8900fa56e57789e2a2f2c9d0 White highlights: I use white gouache and a 3/0 princeton heritage round detail brush. I no longer recommend gel pens (blobs, skips, fixed line width). Any pro grade PW6 Titanium White gouache can be mixed with watercolor to tint your highlights. M Graham has a lovely white gouache that does not crack in the dry pan as badly as other brands, but Schmincke Horadam's pro gouache is a close second with superb quality. About This Video

In this video I’m swatching and painting with two really gorgeous Isaro convenience mixtures: Powdery Pink and Nordmann Green. I show you what they look like in masstone and in washes, how they behave on paper (including how they separate and granulate), and why these kinds of “pretty mixes” can be so tempting when you want instant atmosphere in your paintings. But I also talk about the downside: Jackson’s typically only carries Isaro in the small 7ml tubes (about one full pan once it’s dried), and they’re on the expensive side. So I demonstrate the bigger takeaway—how to replicate those convenience mixtures using single pigment paints from any brand, and I use Roman Szmal Aquarius as my budget-friendly example because you often get about the same amount of paint for roughly half the price. I also share my practical tube-to-pan filling reference (15ml is usually about 2 full pans or 4 half pans, once you fill, dry, and top off), plus the paper and mixing setup I use so you can practice these mixes at home.
