This week I’m back in the shop messing with my old school 1999 Nitro NX 882 bass boat—the same boat I fully restored on the channel a couple years ago (gel coat, floors, carpet, console, even wrapped the motor). It’s 27 years old, and I’ve been slowly dragging it into modern times with updated electronics and little quality-of-life upgrades that new boats come with. We’re under a winter storm warning here in Alabama, so I’d rather be in here piddling on the boat than out in that mess anyway. In this video I start adding flush-mount interior/deck lighting all the way around the boat, plus floor lighting and even lights inside the livewell. I went with a two-tone setup (white and blue) so I can have bright “work” light when I need it, and a cleaner, less blinding blue option for early mornings or late nights. That meant drilling twenty 3/4-inch holes in fiberglass—which I hate—but the flush mount grommet style keeps it looking super clean and factory. I also get into upgrades that actually matter for fishing, like improving the livewell situation (I’ve had fish die in it, and I’m not okay with that) and prepping for a big power upgrade. I weigh my old lead-acid trolling motor batteries at basically 60 pounds each, and that’s exactly why I’m finally moving toward lithium to save a ton of weight and get better performance.
