In this Zero Skill episode I show you the easiest way I know to paint white armour with amazing results in just three simple steps (plus a couple of optional finishing touches). I start from a Grey Seer basecoat because it goes smoother as a primer, causes less issues than pure white, and it gives me instant depth for the shadows. Then I build the white with a big, chunky drybrush of White Scar—quite liberally—making sure I don’t scrub the same area forever, because if the paint hasn’t dried it will lift and look ugly. I’ll swap to smaller drybrushes for control, and if I want extra precision I stipple highlights where I want the volumes to pop. Step two is the “magic layer”: an Express/Contrast-style filter to unify everything. I go for a neutral, slightly dirty white by mixing 1 part Mummy White + 1 part Templar White + 2 parts Express Medium. Apply it section by section and absorb the excess, and you’ll get a really clean, neutral tone that’s a refreshing change from the usual cold white. From there, you can stop for a solid army standard, or push it: I add definition with an easy oil pin wash (Oilbrusher Starship Filth thinned with odorless thinner), let it go matte, then clean it back. Finally, I hit a few key edges with pure white to make the armour read properly bright.
