About This Video

In this video I show you, step by step, the second part of my little DIY setup for holding watercolour paper in the simplest (and honestly the easiest) way I’ve found when I’m out painting. The whole point is to make a paper holder board that attaches to the tripod adapter, so the paper stays put and I’m not faffing about in the wind—especially when I’m painting on our campervan trips with Tanya. I run through what you need and how I put it together using 6mm and 2.5mm MDF, a Stanley knife, and a few really practical bits: Velcro tape, gaffer/duct tape, and a tape measure. The Velcro is what makes the system quick to use in the field—on and off without drama—while the gaffer tape is there for the tough, reliable holding and protection where you need it. If you haven’t seen it yet, this builds on my first video where I made the tripod adapter boards, and it also links in nicely with the table attachment video. The takeaway is a sturdy, repeatable setup that makes plein air watercolour feel more straightforward and less like a battle with your kit.
