Shark is not playing around with us, okay. In this video I tested the brand new Shark SilkiPro Air Straightener on my kinky, coily type 4 hair because they clearly dropped this as direct competition to the Dyson Airstrait. I did my full wash day first, detangled, sectioned, and went in with The Doux Glaze Silkening Fluid as my heat protectant for blow drying. Then I walked through the tool (wet vs dry mode, fan + heat settings) and blew my hair out using wet mode on the highest fan and heat. It took me about 20 minutes total—roughly 2 minutes per section—and I liked that I could get close to my scalp with the comb attachment. For straightening, I switched to dry mode and used high heat in the back, then medium heat in the front because my front sections are more sensitive. I loved how lightweight it is and how having the teeth attached basically encourages the chase method (which is how I straighten my hair at home). But I’m going to be honest: it wasn’t the sleekest, my ends didn’t feel the smoothest, and I kept getting a flashing light like it was overheating which slowed me down. Overnight, my hair semi survived, and my final verdict is it’s not a love—but I do think it’s worth the $250 for the versatility. Just know it gave me more of a blowout vibe than a true silk press.
