In this video, I’m sharing my current vegan and cruelty-free makeup collection (everything fits into one little Target bin), and I’m going category by category—primers, foundations, blushes, contour/bronzer/highlighter, lips, powders, mascara, eyeshadow, and setting spray. I also want to be really honest up front: “vegan” and “cruelty-free” labels don’t hold as much weight as we want them to, because the certification/auditing processes aren’t comprehensive, and the term “cruelty-free” isn’t regulated. On top of that, mica is a huge ethical issue (it’s often mined using child labor), and going truly mica-free is even harder than finding vegan and cruelty-free products—plus it can be expensive and time-consuming. With all of that said, I’ve still tried to curate this collection because I want my conscience to be as clear as possible and I want as little part in animal suffering as possible on my end. I share what I genuinely love (like my favorite tinted primer sample, my Merit cream products, and my “Edward Cullen” highlighter moments), what I’m still testing, and what I probably wouldn’t repurchase. I also talk about practical, minimal-ish choices—like buying travel sizes when I can because makeup expires quickly and I’d rather use things up than waste product.
