About This Video

In this video I’m sharing the inbox–outbox system I came up with a few months ago, and it’s honestly been one of the biggest reasons my home feels cleaner and more clutter-free. The whole idea is simple: a lot of household clutter comes from “limbo items” that don’t have a real home—things you need to return, exchange, donate, sell, or even just put away later because you’re tired after a Target run. Instead of letting those things drift onto counters, floors, and random corners, I give them a dedicated, temporary home right by my front door. I walk you through my actual setup using a secondhand IKEA Ivar shelving unit and show how I categorize what goes where—returns/exchanges, donation bags, items to list and sell (like my printer and a baby gate), and even small “to-the-car” items. I also share a little “dirty socks” bin experiment for those socks that aren’t clean but aren’t quite laundry-hamper dirty either. The one downside I’ve noticed is that when everything is neatly tucked away, I feel less urgency to deal with it—so I’m planning to designate a day (like Sundays) to force myself to handle at least one outbox item and let the momentum snowball from there.
