About This Video

If you’ve ever tried ripping a DVD or Blu-ray for Plex or Jellyfin, you know how annoying the workflow is: MakeMKV, then HandBrake, then naming, then moving files, then updating your library… and you basically babysit the whole thing. In this video I show a much better way I’ve been using lately: Automatic Ripping Machine (ARM). The idea is simple—pop a disc in, go live your life, and ARM detects the disc, rips it with MakeMKV, optionally transcodes it with HandBrake, names it, and drops it into the right folders for your media server. I walk through what you actually need (optical drives, fast SSD space for working directories, and bulk storage for the final library), then I install ARM via Docker on Debian 12 and show the dashboard, drive passthrough, and the OMDB API key setup (including the part where the UI didn’t save for me, so I edited arm.yaml manually). I also cover the real-world quirks: wrong title matches, DVDs/Blu-rays with multiple files (and how “main feature” can help… until it doesn’t), manual mode for TV seasons, and a duplicate-rip loop I hit when a disc re-injected itself. Finally, I show how I got Intel Quick Sync working with a custom Dockerfile and HandBrake preset tweaks, which made transcoding dramatically faster and more efficient.
