This video is a bit of a milestone for me: it’s the last thing I’m filming in this house. We’ve been working on selling this place while also building a new one, and even though I’m really excited for what’s next, it’s also kind of emotional. This is where we brought my son home, where I started homelabbing and self-hosting, and where I kicked off Hardware Haven at this table with my phone filming an old computer—back when it was just for fun. The big reason I’m pumped about the move (besides life stuff) is space. My current “studio” is a tiny 9x10 bedroom that’s somehow my filming set, office, workshop, and storage unit all at once—and it’s been getting harder to do the kind of projects I want to do efficiently. The new Hardware Haven room is about 60% bigger and will be dedicated to filming and building, with my main desk in a separate office. My favorite part is the massive closet that’s basically a blank slate: I’m planning a small rack for servers, a spot for 3D printers, and it’ll be the home for networking too—two conduits run there, plus conduits around the house so I can run fiber to rooms and drop switches where needed. I also share a channel update and an apology for fewer uploads lately. Some of it is move logistics and projects that didn’t pan out, but I’ve also been dealing with mental health stuff and therapy has helped a lot. There may be a short gap during the move, but I’ve got ideas, and I’m excited to build out the new lab the right way.
