PlayStation has beat the piss out of Xbox’s britches this gen, and I’m not just pulling numbers out of thin air. In this video I talk about how the PS5 is sitting north of 84 million units sold and holding a massive lead, and then I pivot to what I actually care about day-to-day: the controllers. I’ve covered ninth gen since before launch, but I’m skipping the usual console war tech-spec rabbit hole and focusing on the DualSense vs the Xbox Series controller (and a quick nod to the Switch Pro controllers being basically the same thing with minor revisions). From my testing and just living with these things, the DualSense is a bigger leap than people give it credit for—new shape, ergonomics that are damn near perfect, and “gimmicks” like haptics and adaptive triggers that actually work with the console. I also get into the downsides: DualSense battery life is abysmal (think 6–10 hours), but on PC you can go wired and overclock a PS4/PS5 controller to 1000Hz for super low input delay. Xbox is still the easy-mode pick for PC because it’s Xinput out of the box, but in competitive scenes I keep seeing more DualSense variants in hand cams. I also touch on pro options like Elite Series 2 vs DualSense Edge—Elite has been around forever, but the QC complaints are real, while Edge has modular stick options (including third-party Hall effect) to fight drift.
