In this video I break down Black Ops 7 mode-by-mode, because a lot of us only buy COD for multiplayer and zombies anyway. Multiplayer is honestly really damn good this year: 16 launch maps (13 brand new), solid weapon variety, and balancing that doesn’t feel like one gun is completely cracked while everything else is useless. Matchmaking is fast like usual, and while skill-based/engagement matchmaking is definitely still a thing (trust me, the game figures out when you’re a cracked sweat lord), it felt toned down compared to the worst years. I landed on a 7/10 for multiplayer just off the maps, guns, and how much fun I’m having. Zombies is also in a good spot. You’ve got two maps, and Ashes of the Damned nails that Dark Aether vibe. The wonder weapon gauntlet is a cool design, solo save is a huge W, and you can even swap between first and third person (with shoulder swap, which every third-person shooter should have). Where the game absolutely falls on its face is campaign and “Endgame.” The campaign being always-online, not pausable, and full of weird wacky sci-fi boss fights makes it feel like COD lost the plot—so I gave it a 1. If you’re here for multiplayer/zombies it’s closer to a 7 overall, but if you’re buying for campaign, skip it.
