About This Video

In this video I show you how I create a simple “zoom through screen” transition in DaVinci Resolve using a mix of speed ramping on the Edit page and a clean Fusion setup. I start with a basic push-through shot, then right-click > Retime Controls and add speed points to boost the speed right where the move needs to feel snappy. The important part is smoothing the ramp—so I jump into the keyframes curve, ease in, and drag the handles (with Shift) until the motion feels natural instead of abrupt. After that, I move into Fusion and use a Tracker set to Corner Positioning to lock onto the four corners of the monitor. I stencil out the screen area, duplicate nodes, and create a bitmap/matte so the screen is properly isolated. Then I animate the screen drop with keyframes between two markers (M), smooth it in the Spline, and keyframe the Merge blend to zero so the moved screen doesn’t stay visible during the zoom. Finally, I add another Transform for the actual push/zoom, ease it in cubic for that bouncy feel, and drop a background clip underneath. To sell it, I match the speed ramp on the background clip too, so both layers feel like one continuous camera move—then finish with sound design if you want it to hit even harder.
