About This Video

In this video I’m showing you how to create the “invisible screen / through the screen” hologram-style effect in DaVinci Resolve—and honestly, it’s pretty easy once you stack it the right way. I work with two clips: one of me staring into the camera and one screen recording. I place the screen recording on top, turn it into a Fusion Clip, and in Fusion I add a Soft Glow to get that hologram vibe. I reduce the gain (because it gets too strong fast), bump the glow size a bit, and tweak the color so it leans into that teal look. After that I jump back to the Edit page and switch the composite mode to Screen, so the overlay blends naturally. Then I dial in framing with zoom/position and add a slight pitch to sell the perspective. To make it feel more cinematic, I enable Dynamic Zoom (Ease In) on both layers so everything breathes together. Finally, the “magic” is the focus swap: I add Gaussian Blur to both clips and keyframe blur strength so the screen recording starts blurry, comes into focus, then fades back out—while the background clip does the opposite. That focus pull makes the effect feel real, and if you add a couple of whooshes or sound effects, it elevates the whole thing for travel-tech storytelling.
