About This Video

This entire video was shot on the iPhone 16 Pro using the free Blackmagic Camera app, and I break the workflow into two simple parts: the exact camera settings I use to get a cinematic look, and the color grading process in DaVinci Resolve. If you’ve opened the app and felt overwhelmed by all the options, don’t worry—I go through the settings one by one and only touch what actually matters for getting clean, controllable footage. On the camera side, I shoot 4K in H.264 with a high bitrate, set my color space to Apple Log, and keep shutter measurement on angle so it sticks to a 180° shutter look. I shoot 24fps, keep ISO as low as possible, and I always lock white balance (usually around 5600K in daylight, or closer to 6000K if I want extra warmth). I also use zebras at 85% to catch overexposure, enable lens correction, and set an aspect ratio of 1.85:1 with grids on for easier composition. For grading, I keep it clean with a 9-node structure: CST from Rec.2020/Apple Log to Rec.709 (Rec.709A on Mac), then white balance, exposure, a subtle S-curve, my teal-and-orange LUT, contrast (around 1.1–1.2), a more natural “color density” saturation trick via HSV channels, Dehancer for grain + halation to kill the digital feel, and a final sharpness tweak.
