About This Video

For years my videos looked lifeless—washed out, boring, and nothing like what I imagined when I was out shooting. I’d come back, drop the footage on my timeline, and instantly feel that “heart sinks” moment. Then I’d do what we all do: jump into the color panel and start fighting wheels, curves, sliders, and scopes… and somehow make it worse after following long tutorials. In this video, I break down the one “secret” that finally changed everything for me: LUTs (lookup tables). I explain the real difference between color correction (the technical stuff like exposure and white balance) and color grading (the artistic part—mood, style, and feeling). I also show the two main LUT types: technical LUTs for converting log footage, and creative LUTs—my personal cheat code for getting a cinematic look fast. I share how I chased the teal-and-orange vibe, ended up building my own LUT, and why LUTs aren’t always perfect—but the tweaks you need after applying one are actually simple. If you want your travel films to stop looking flat and start feeling cinematic, this is the shortcut that leveled the playing field for me.
