About This Video

In this DaVinci Resolve tutorial, I show you how to create a clean 3D moving text effect on top of your video—and it’s honestly easier than you think. I start on the Edit page by bringing in a Text+ title and timing it roughly to the words (you can fine-tune it to your voice later). Then I highlight everything, right-click, create a New Fusion Clip, and jump into the Fusion page to build the 3D setup properly. Inside Fusion, I keep the footage as my base (I rename it to “footage”), then delete the extra background and merge nodes so the node tree stays clean. The core trick is converting 2D elements into 3D space using three nodes: ImagePlane3D, Merge3D, and Render3D. After that, I add a Camera3D and keyframe the camera translation (mainly Z) to get that smooth zoom-out reveal. If your animation feels abrupt, I fix it in the Spline editor with a proper ease (I push the ease-in value up around 85 for a smoother feel). Finally, I duplicate the 3D chain for multiple text layers, position each text in 3D using the ImagePlane3D transform, and add a little Gaussian Blur on the footage during the move to spice it up. The takeaway: once you understand this 2D-to-3D node workflow, you can use the same technique for any graphic—not just text.
