About This Video

In this video I’m breaking down the viral CUT OUT / shape cut out transition step by step in DaVinci Resolve using Fusion. Before I even touch Fusion, I start on the Edit page by marking the beat of the song—just press M to drop markers—so you know exactly where your cuts should land. Once the timing is locked, I make the first cut, right click and create a New Fusion Clip, then jump into the Fusion page to build the effect with simple masks. The core idea is super easy: I stack multiple masks (like Rectangle, Polygon, and Ellipse), duplicate them, and reposition each one using the Center X slider so every cut reveals more of the next clip. Then I split the Fusion Clip into multiple cuts on the beat, and for each segment I keep only the masks I need (deleting the extra ones) so it progresses like 1 → 2 → 3 shapes. I also show a second example with a Polygon mask (with Invert enabled) plus an Ellipse, and I mention you can even go crazy with Magic Mask to isolate a subject. The takeaway: beat markers + quick cuts + duplicated masks in Fusion = clean, customizable cut out transitions you can adapt to any travel film or tech edit.
