About This Video

What’s going on everyone— in this video I build my Canon C70 into a mini cinema rig that’s designed to travel. The goal here is simple: keep the setup as small as possible while still getting that “real” cinema workflow for interviews, documentaries, and client work. This build isn’t sponsored by SmallRig, I just used all SmallRig components because I genuinely think they make high-quality rigging gear that stays compact, which matters a lot when I’m flying or keeping my kit minimal. I start with a SmallRig baseplate and carbon fiber rails (I upgraded from aluminum to save weight and gain strength), then I mount the SmallRig VB50—my go-to compact V-mount option—on the back so I can power the camera (or a monitor) and get through a full day of shorter interview blocks. From there I add the SmallRig F60 follow focus because with manual cinema glass like my Zen CF 50mm, it’s the easiest way to get consistent, critical focus without fighting the lens by hand. I also show how modular this rig is by swapping to a totally different lens (a vintage Canon FD 50mm) and using the friction ring so the follow focus still works even without focus gears.
