About This Video

Aloha gang—this one is all about Scaler 2 Pattern mode and how I use it to sketch a whole song fast. I’m in Scaler 2.3 and I focus on the pattern section at the bottom, because this is where you can lay out chord progressions for your intro, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge—whatever you need—and then click through parts while you’re arranging. The big win is flexibility: you can build a few different progressions first, then decide what actually feels like the verse or chorus after you hear it in context. I start by grabbing a style/preset (I jump into a pop preset in F major), then I drag chords in and duplicate them (Alt-drag) to build Pattern 1. When the changes feel too fast, I go into Edit and adjust Playback Times—doubling the length, trying 1.5 bars, half bars, and using quick “passing chord” moments to create movement and tension. Then I switch to Pad > Pattern 2 and Pattern 3 to create alternate sections, audition them with a drum loop at 150 BPM, and reorder based on vibe. Once the parts stand out, I drag the patterns into the DAW so I can swap sections on the fly and write toplines/lyrics way easier. Bangers only—Aloha always.
