Aloha gang—this Reggae Sunday is all about making a full reggae vibe starting from a simple sample and letting Scaler 2 do the heavy lifting (with my ears still doing the driving). I grab a melody sample (I use Splice because I’m lazy… and it works), check the BPM/key, then set Scaler 2 to match the scale (D-flat/C# minor in this one). From there I hit that bind button so I can play chords like an MPC on my Push, and I audition chords under the melody until it feels right—reggae needs that lovey-dovey, feel-good energy. Once I land the progression, I lay down a quick placeholder drum groove with a stock Ableton kit, then I capture the MIDI from Scaler and drag it right into a piano track. The big reggae sauce is making the skank hit on the 2 and 4, then creating the bubble by nudging the same chords over and up an octave. After that, I flip on Ableton’s Groove (8th-note swing) to make it breathe—like… “my dear mother of god,” it instantly turns into dubby goodness. Then I build it out with bass and a little guitar, move it into Arrangement View, add a riser, and boom—track is writing itself. Bangers only. Aloha always.
