Welcome back to another Reggae Sunday—this one is all about making a quick little banger in Ableton using my favorite plugin, Scaler 2. I start by pulling up a groove, then I show you a super practical workflow move: taking a reggae beat from Addictive Drums (I love it for fills and reggae patterns) and copying that MIDI straight onto an Ableton kit (I used the Boom Bap kit) to instantly change the vibe. That right there is one of the reasons Ableton makes me happy—drag, drop, swap sounds, keep the rhythm moving. Then we get into the Scaler 2 sauce. I test a faster way to get chords into the session that a viewer (Corey Mumper) put me onto: instead of MIDI capturing, I highlight the chords in Scaler’s performance area and option-click/drag them right into a MIDI track. From there I build the reggae “skank” (two and the four), duplicate it into an organ bubble, clean it up with EQ, and start layering bass and guitars. I even grab a nylon guitar, double parts, add a harmony, glue-compress it, and then we mess around with a melody layer that just magically works. Pure fun, fast workflow, bangers only—Aloha always.
