Hey yo—tonight I jumped back into the old faithful Scaler 2 (you already know how much I love that plugin) and I built a quick beat using the NEW chord progressions from the 2.4 update. The big add for this one is the “Common Progressions” and the genre packs (like 70s funk & soul), and Scaler even gives you little descriptions so you know what you’re grabbing before you commit. I bind the top section so I can play the chords from my keyboard/controller, then I start flipping between the simple/triad versions and the thicker/colored versions to see how far I can push the vibe. Spoiler alert: it’s good stuff. After I pick my favorite progression (70s funk & soul #1 was the winner for me), I use the Performance section to add strumming so it feels more like a real player. From there it’s straight into Ableton: lay drums, drag the chords out, make it four bars, and then I duplicate Scaler instances so I can build a bass part (using Scaler’s bass performances) and a melody on top. I also mess with the new sequences in 2.4—some are hilarious-basic, but a couple have a real bounce if you mix them right. The takeaway: with the new progressions + performance tools, you can get to a loop you actually want to replay over and over—bangers only. Much peace, much love, much aloha.
