Aloha gang, I’m back—Reggae Sunday style—and in this one I jump straight into a reggae cookup using my favorite plugin: Scaler 2. I start by building a quick dancehall-inspired drum groove in Ableton (stock kit vibes), then I mess with velocity and swing to get that hi-hat feeling right. Once the pocket is there, I pull up Scaler, grab a moody chord progression, and show you how I MIDI-capture the full chords and drag them into a soft piano. The big takeaway is the reggae “upbeat” feel: Scaler drops the chords on the one, but I slide them over so they hit on the offbeat, then I keep things tight and staccato because the more staccato it is, the groovier it gets. From there I lay in a bassline (quantize + same swing), build a quick bubble part by trimming low notes so it doesn’t get muddy, and then I add guitar layers—clean rhythm plus a wah part for that reggae magic. I also show a simple way to fatten the piano by duplicating and panning, then I toss in a reverse swell from Splice to set up transitions. Bangers only—Aloha always.
