What’s good you guys—aloha and happy Sunday. In this Reggae Sunday cookup I’m in Ableton building a full reggae beat using Scaler 2 (still one of my favorite plugins, bangers only). I start by grabbing a simple chord progression, MIDI capturing it, and getting it locked to an 8-bar loop. From there I build the reggae foundation the way I actually do it: chords on the two and the four, then the bubble organ (duplicate the chords, slide the rhythm, drop an organ sound, tune it down, and EQ out the mud). After that it’s all about stacking the vibe: percussion with that little upbeat, guitar skanks, then the bass (and I’m watching the low end so the bubble and bass don’t rub). I move everything into Arrangement View and map out a real song—intro, hook, verse markers, fills, short risers, and transitions—so it feels like a finished record, not just a loop. Then I sprinkle in the bells and whistles: dub-style delay and reverb throws, some vocal chops, and even harmonies using Nectar to get that reggae-chant energy. By the end, you’ve got a solid reggae framework you can repeat, switch up, and mix down for your own tracks.
