Aloha gang, in this Reggae Sunday session I jump into Scaler 2 (my favorite new plugin) and we cook up a sweet reggae banger from scratch. I start by auditioning chord progressions, turning Bind on so I can trigger full chords with one finger, and then I tweak the voicings (voice grouping + dynamic) to get the chords sitting in the right octave. From there I grab a vibe that feels like an intro, lay it down, and then we do the classic reggae move: shifting the skank so it hits on the 2 and the 4 instead of the 1. After the chords are locked, I build the beat out in Ableton with drums, add swing/groove for that bounce, and start layering instruments—guitars, bubble, and a bass line—while keeping everything in key (C# minor / D♭ minor vibe). I also talk songwriting mindset when someone asks about starting with vocals vs beat: if I’m writing a real song, I like to start with vocals/melody first because melody is gold, then build the beat around it. We even try installing Unify live on stream (new toys!), but it gets crashy on my setup—so I keep the cookup moving and promise to dive deeper next time.
