About This Video

Aloha gang—today I’m in Ableton with my new fave plugin, Scaler 2, and we’re making bomb-ass melodies from scratch. I start by laying down a quick vibe (either a simple drum pattern or a Splice loop), then I build the foundation with chords first—because once I know where I’m going harmonically, the melody decisions get way easier. From there I duplicate Scaler tracks to stack parts: a pad for chords, a pluck for movement, and then I jump into Scaler’s Perform section and the Melody area to audition ideas fast. I also mess with the newer Rift category (they used to just have Themes), and I show how you can switch between variations of the same riff by clicking different versions—instant switch-ups without overthinking. Big Ableton tip in here too: routing Scaler into any synth is simple—set “MIDI From” to Scaler 2 and you’re good, so you can run it through Serum, Analog Lab, whatever you want. Then we finish the beat with Bass mode (because it’s so easy it feels like the computer should just read my mind), add some flavor like Retro Color, and keep it moving—bangers only. Much love, much peace, much aloha.
